Also....how well do those fans cool your car? Any hot weather highway & stop/go traffic problems?

the fans do well, been running mine for over 4 years with good results. I do have to kick on my heater when traffic gets all bunched up....price you pay for wanting to go fast. I do want to step up to the dual spal fans when I do my relocation. They are rated for more CFM. My bro's set up is pictured.

Oh yeah I have my fans programmed to come on @168 degs. I also have my fans run for 2:30 after shutdown (key off) if the temps get to 210 which is the norm after a track pass....only to remove some heat when its pitted.

What are Some options if you want to get rid of the hood latch?
I'm not keen on hood pins. Anything else out there?

You could only really go as wide as the frame raiils, which really isn't any wider then the radiator is now.

With enough money anything can be done.

Chris
Looking at the pics, the seems to be plenty of room to go wider.

For instance, in this pic

it seems you could mount a very short and wide radiator where the I/C is mounted. It's in front of the frame rails. The only issue I see is that there doesn't seem to be a thick enough radiator to support say a 500 hp engine.

Would it hit the lights when they are down? I can't see what the limit would be.

Look at the frame rails i circled them, in the pic below.

The intercoolers are about as wide as you can fit inbetwene them. If you moved the radiator forward further then these there would be next to no room for an intercooler. If you want your radiator that are forward, and dont need a fmic for what ever reason it could be done.

You could also chop them off, and go wider, but most people keep the radiator behind hood latch, near oem radiator support, and dont put it up where the fmic is.

Here is how mine was just done by a local guy. Hopefully we can fit two Spall puller fans and a 4" elbow going the supercharger.

I've got a question only you guys can answer. I don't plan to run a turbo but I do want to relocate the radiator. I'd like to remove both upper and lower radiator cross braces and add a single new brace in between the frame rails. Would a brace in this location be in the way of anything? (cam swap, etc...)

I'm also juggling ideas of how to make the brace. One idea was to bend some tubing, another is to use rectangular tubing about the height of the frame rails. Any suggestions?

I'll see if my bro has any saved to his computer, but they are very thin, not any thicker than 3inches if I remember right.

SOO what PUSHER fans work in daily driving stop and go??
And what PULLER fans work in daily driving stop and go??

I have two ebay fans that are 12" but im worried they might not be enough for a pusher setup. I wired em up to a spare battery and they dont feel like they push THAT much air but im hoping some guys out there used something similar without having to buy real expensive fans... im just iffy about them overall and some suggestions on pusher fan choice would be awesome from someone whos actually driven the car on the street....Thanks in Advance!!!

It's like every one took off.

I'd still like to get some suggestions to brace the frame rails together so I can cut the radiator supports out. Maybe a piece of 2x4 rectangular tubing welded into place would do just fine.

well it is saterday monring you know

on mine i didnt put a brace of any kind to tie them together. i think the norm everyone is using is a 1x1 square tubing, a 2x4 would seem to take up ALOT of space that you just free'd up

All Thursday and Friday and no posts. I was thinking everyone took off.

I'm removing the entire upper brace from fender to fender and all of the lower brace as well. So it will be just the 2 sheet metal frame rails. Obviously a 1x1 piece isn't going to do much. I will have more than enough room for what I need.

Anyone have a definitive real world "this is what works 100% gauranteed" answer on the pusher fan situation??

As far as car running cool?

You guys have seen my setup in here. Its 2 10 inch pro form 50 dollar electric fans from summit. The griffin rad everyone uses. I used 50 dex cool/50 water. No other additives, and normal driving im right at 190 degrees. The car has a 160 t stat, and fans are set to come on around 160 also i believe. I know its lower, but would have to ask tuner.

Anyways, if im really beating on it for a while i have seen 200 maybe 205, but the hottest day so far this yr was 79. It should/would probably be ok in stop and go traffic, as i can let my car idle all day and will never go over 190 but my car doesn't get driven in traffic much.

hope this helps you guys.

Most complicated part i see in doing what your talking about is making the hood latch work. If you used hood pins or something and didn't need hood latch it would be easier. wouldn't you also need to bolt the headlights to it. Id really have to look at some pics, but if it were me, id get it all apart, cut it out, then start figuring it out.

Good luck, Chris.

Ps make sure you take pics of your work, and get them up here, it would be interesting to see.

Aerocatch hood locks. Check this thread out. They look really cool:

OK, so the topic of installs seems to be pretty well documented, but what's the concensus on the short Griffin keeping 800-900rwhp cars cool? - (assuming proper shrouding and fan use)
