Those who moved radiator up and vertical.... in here

Just a few questions about this set up a lot of you guys run. It seems to be great for turbo set ups clearing for a lot of extra room that is definitely needed in our cars. So if someone could list whats all involved in doing this, that would be greatly appreciated. Obviously a different radiator is needed, which seems to be a good fit without having to weld on a bunch of fittings, etc? Also what all else is needed (Coolant lines, brackets, etc)? Some detailed pictures would be nice as well. Thanks!

not trying to jack this thread but i'm curious as well but using a stock style radiator if its possible to pull it forward. how are hoses long enough?

Superman09 04-13-2007 07:52 AM

Stock won't work verticle i believe, much too tall and the fill neck is angled, its made to be mounted at the angle is on...

ty_ty13 04-13-2007 08:03 AM

i believe the consensus is a 15.5tall x 27.5 wide x 3'' thick made by griffin...

you can find it at summit....

Superman09 04-13-2007 08:11 AM

ok thanks, what all is needed to be done to it to fit and hook everything up? Thanks!

Looks like the winner! What all are you guys doing/using to mount this and hook up all the hoses, etc? Thanks!

Hey BC, that looks pretty nice man. What kind of fans are those? And is your kit a front mount? Just wondering if the turbo is too close to the fans? Have you experienced any heat issues?

bc56f100 04-13-2007 09:18 AM

FLX-220 Electric Fan, Dual, 12 in. Diameter, Puller, 2,500 cfm, Black Plastic, Each $209.88 1 $209.88

GRI-1-25241-X Radiator, Universal, Crossflow, Aluminum, 27.5 in. Wide, 15.5 in. High, 3.0 in. Thick, Each $189.95 1 $189.95

Preciate it!! Theres the fans and radiator I got from Summit!! Yea its a front mount and the turbo is a good bit away from the fans! I have a heat sheild on the hot side that is pretty close but nowhere near touching!! Im in the middle of putting a new stand alone system in it so cant give much more info right now but before the fans didnt get really hot much!! Those fans pull air like a mofo!! Hell they'l hold a peice of cardboard on the front mount when you turn them on!!! Heres a shot of the turbo!

SO by the looks of it everything sits in there just perfect, how are the temps?? I want to do this to my daily driver how do you think it will cool???

I wonder if Griffin could add a 6an bung and a Coolant sensor spot on the passenger side of the rad???

bc56f100 04-13-2007 09:44 AM

No prob.!!

Yea they should be able to do that!! I had a cooling problem but that was cause my lower stainless hose was leaking out my coolant! Ha! But when I got it to stop it kept the temps down real good!! And at idle the air temp comming out of the charge pipe from the intercooler was a crap load cooler than the temp outside!!! So I would'nt think you would have a problem with them at all!!

T/A KID 04-13-2007 09:53 AM

How are you stabilizing the radiator now?? most guys have a Bar running across with it bolted in. I can't tell how you have yours??
Thanks for the help

94blownz281 04-13-2007 09:56 AM

BC where did all your wires and harness's go? looks clean....

bc56f100 04-13-2007 10:11 AM

I didnt want to see anything so I made some brackets to slide on the sides of the radiator and bolt to the front support! The first pick is the two brackets, the second is the foam used inside the channel and the third is hard to see but its on there!! I hate wires so there all hidden everywhere!! LOL Preciate!!
