2-step question

i have a STS A4 been told a 2-step would help my 60 ft times. how does it work and do i need anything beyond the 2-step to make it work ????

ALLBOTTLE 07-28-2007 02:41 PM

Their are 2 types of 2 step hard cut and soft cut

Soft cut: just cuts the ignition at a certain rpm causing allowing the motor to load up.

Hard cut: Not only does it cut ignition but it retards it almost 180* out so that it fires out the exhaust stroke and uses all the energy to spool the turbo. (kills turbines and bearings)

I believe Synergy is the only one who has a 2 step for the stock pcm now, unless Harlan has his 2 step up and running again.

Here is an example of a hard cut 2 step on a supra

you can hear how long it takes to get the turbo spooling

which version was the Harlan, soft or hard?

SScam68 07-28-2007 03:59 PM

his design was soft cut

frcefed98 07-28-2007 11:36 PM

He ever get back to you about your "harlan 2 step," Frank? I asked him to call you....

SScam68 07-28-2007 11:51 PM

Nope, never got a call.

Hell Harlan, just send the broken one back. I work with a bunch of EE's. We can fix it :)

I absolutely loved that thing. Probably one of the best mods. :(

frcefed98 07-29-2007 12:03 AM

Man add another one to my "list"

Hope he at least sends the broken one back....

I was also interested in this.. It seems that is BAD for your motor and turbo?

I dont know about the motor, but I can see it being REALLY bad for the turbo...

How bad is the Soft Cut on the Turbo?

ALLBOTTLE 07-29-2007 12:16 AM

the soft cut is not bad at all

2000TurboVert 07-29-2007 12:27 AM

Sweet! I might need to look into getting one of those!

would you guys prefer the 2-step on my sts A4 or a 50 shot of nitrous ???? i have a 3000 stall very tight converter

ddnspider 07-30-2007 01:24 PM

i tried getting an answer in another thread about this how much will a hard cut 2 step shorten the bearing/turbo life?

I don't believe anyone make a hard-cut box for the ls1, you would need an AEM/XFI/BS3 to get a hard cut, as far as bearing life jose/dr. Turbo should be able to give you a more definite answer.

ddnspider 07-30-2007 02:27 PM

if i remember correctly he said they never noticed anything failing earlier

I would do a 2 step first and if you don't improve the way you want just add a 50 shot

deejaydaze 08-03-2007 11:51 PM

Is there a 2 step for Manual guys?

:newbie:

bhz28 08-04-2007 11:16 AM

I believe the 2-steps work on both, I don't think they are different for a manual car.

ddnspider 08-04-2007 11:29 AM

only how they are activated....on 99+ f bodys they wire to the clutch switch in the ecu in a 98 u either have to use a microswitch or a momentary.these are how they connect on a manual

deejaydaze 08-04-2007 11:50 AM

but they dont make em anyway right?
