Pulley change (ATI) What is the best way to change pulleys? |
Re: Pulley change (ATI) ttt :bang: |
Re: Pulley change (ATI) I take the SC off the car. Using an old belt looped around the pulley and doubled back, I tap firmly on a socket wrench to loosen the bolt. Unscrew the bolt. I spent less than $20 bucks for a puller like this: http://www.hand-tools-power-tools.co...ear_puller.jpg Takes about about a minute or two to screw the pulley off. To put the different pulley on, I heat it in the oven on 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. With the shaft key in it's slot, I pick up the pulley with pliers and drop it on the shaft. One tap of the hammer and it is in place. I put Red Loctite on the bolt threads and tighten it back down. Using an old belt (again) looped around the pulley and doubled back, I tap on the socket wrench to tighten the bolt some more, and I'm done! |
Re: Pulley change (ATI) Sorry for such a stupid question but what is a socket wrench. Do you have a picture? |
Re: Pulley change (ATI) http://www.nascar.com/2003/kyn/tech/.../laser_socket/ or here's another pic: http://www.bartleby.com/images/A4images/A4socket.jpg from The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. I hope you don't work on cars. ;) Are you playin' wi' me? |
