Default Finally made some 2007 hits, 9.44@144 and 1.35 on DR's

Whew is it September already? What with having two kids under the age of two, having two jobs, and the time spent lining up parts for Pinkenstein, one of the horses in the stable has not been getting a lot of track time.... My Formula.

I fitted on the 325 drag radials earlier this year, but have not had time to mess with the car, fix little things, and get it to the track. I had noticed the last time I drove the car that the locker felt like it was messed up, so I had my friend Neil who does fab and chassis work swap out my 31 spline axles and center section and install some new 35 spline axles, and a spool from Scott @ Driveline Solutions. I also bit the bullet and finally did front and rear drag brakes, Aerospace up front, and Strange out back. He also installed the Wolfe parachute setup with a Stroud parachute. He also wrapped parts of the turbo setup, and I also swapped my old TCT blower converter out for a PTC turbo converter.

We went to GLD last nite, it was Haider, me, and Big Bill and some other guys we know were at the track too. I got great advice from Madman on the way up on how to set up the suspension for the drag radials.

First pass: 13.2@102
Car had issues. It would not pull thru the rpms, and Haider's theory was that the second fuel pump setup maybe had some dirt in it or something, because it cleared up in the parking lot.

Second pass: 12.1@115
I'm not sure what happened, honestly I don't think I had the gas floored, I suck. Actually, I foot braked it to 2500 and ran at 15psi, and I went through the traps in 2nd gear. Might not have been floored, we thought we might have been chasing an electrical problem.

Third pass: 10.3@140
1.42
4.41
6.777
106.30
8.733
Basically I had fierce tire shake when the power came on, and I lifted. I got back in it and still went 140mph. Someone I know has video, you should see the tire shake it's crazy. This was 2step at like 3800, 20 psi.

Fourth pass: 9.44@144
1.35
3.895
6.032
115.22
7.878
Car left real nice, I have travel limiters on the car and the front only picks up about 10-12 inches. We made two chassis adjustments in an effort to address the tire shake. I tagged the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift, not for a long time. I shifted at 7000. At the end of the pass I blew off a vacuum hose for the brake booster, no biggie.

I came back around and we discovered that the blow off valve line was melted from ambient heat from the turbo. I'm not sure when it started leaking, but when I went to make a fifth pass it would not make boost. Haider cut the hose and we rigged it, but the 90 degree fitting was melted too.

Other notes:
-Raced with 112 leaded
-DR's track great, I feel like I'm in a street car doing 150mph on the highway
-New brakes are awesome, car brakes better than stock now... Maybe my stockers were worn out.
-I'm probably still at 3400 raceweight
-I need one of those giant fans to cool the car, my temps after a pass were 210F. My trans temps were 200ish.
-Mike Brown told me earlier this year that I'd probably need to spin this higher than 7000, I bet he's right too. I am going to try more boost next time, but also experiment with shifting at 7200 and 7400.

Thanks again to Haider, Big Bill, Madman, Robert (pitted next to him), and Ashy Larry.

Great to hear the car is back in action!

How does the seat-of-the-pants feel compared to the blower?

Tom it looked like 7psi, car does not feel like it leaves hard to be honest.

Blower felt more sick off the line, the blower felt like like a big block, whereas the turbo has that lag until it hits the powerband and it takes off. I'm thinking back, and on the last pass, the car felt slow up top, maybe that line was already fugged up at that point...

Very nice. Sounds like you need a blanket on that GT47. Will help keep the temps down.

I can't fit a blanket on there right now.

Bill I think you were checking out the timeslip booth chick instead of putting me in the water box.

325-50-15 MT DR's, and the tire psi was in the high teens for the 1.35 pass.

My PB with YSi was 9.40@143, with the turbo it's 9.44@144.

1.35 both times too, but with the turbo it's on DR's.

I think the turbo setup @ the current 20 psi will pick up if I leave a little harder. ie. more boost from increasing the 2step rpm, staging better, and shifting higher.
