Has anyone REALLY made BIG power with Dart 225's?
I've been seraching for a while and it seems that not a lot of people are using or reporting BIG numbers with these heads, and that the oil burners have kind of killed interest in them as well.
I found a couple of people on the net who claim rediculously high numbers, but is it all Interenet BS or what?
I have a couple of sets of them and am wondering if i should try them, send them out to be ported or dump them?
My current heads are AFR 205's, but I am looking for 750 to 800 rwhp with my 3.3L whipple
Any thoughts?
Thx

I would stick with the AFR's if you're going to turn the wick up... Just my opinion though.... You should ask KP, he went from Dart's to the 225 small bore AFR's... He's not pushing hardly any water at all compared to the Darts... He made good power though and made quite a few passes with them... He was just lifting them and the thicker deck on the AFR's fixed the problem for the most part... 6 bolt heads would help though.. =)

With the afr 205's, I made 621rwhp/647t, untuned and running out of fuel on my oem ls6 bottom end....g5x1 cam, kooks 1 3/4 and at 8 psi.
Not looking for any world record, but 750 to 800 would be nice...don't know if that is doable with a 205 head????
thx

Nick Yoskin made great numbers (over 800rwbhp) on his twin turbo 347. he was running untouched AFR 225s.
i haven't really heard anything bad about them and they are supposed to be good right out the box.
thanks Chris.

It would be great IF I had a set of AFR 225's.... my afr's are 205's...my Darts are 225's
So I need to decide...send some heads out, run what I have or dump and go to something else???
Thanks

I am about to put Darts on mine. They arent that good out of the box but they are the cheapest bare head available and thats what I was looking for since I was going to have so much work done on them anyways.

IF I can remember from my research, I think the Darts have the thinest deck of all the aftermarket heads. Less than 5/8 i think. May be something to think about. Could be a problem down the road.

They are holding enough power to get a 3700lb car down the track at 172. that should end the debate right there. At some point in time you will outgrow every possible head. why worry about a head that will fail at 1500hp when you might never break 1000?
Dart Claims to use a stronger alloy to make up for the thiner deck.

Now that my fuel problems are cured, I can get around to some reasonable afr's and tune my direct port meth....until I swap out the engine that is...then back to rich again for a bit.
I'm running hpt sd...

I came across something. Whether it is Internet BS or not I don't know.
If you go here and download the latest Magnuson catalog, and then go to page 29 (31 in viewer), at the upper right is a dyno chart from Kenny Duttweiler that shows 760 HP (don't know if that's BHP or RWHP) with these specs: 57 Chevy, LS2 402, 10.8:1, Dart 225s, 236/246/640 cam, MP122H, 9-9.5 psi.

I have a set of Dart's that are stock out of the box except for oring's and I am making over 900rwhp with them. They are the thinnest deck's out there, but the oring's do help alot! I will be upgrading to a different head so I can the boost up more though. So far they are working pretty good!
