Default What tensioner are all the FI guys running?

I ran the turbo SS yesterday and threw the belt on what would have been my 10-second pass. 1.66 60' 7.1 1/8 @ 100 and then pop goes the belt. On the next pass the belt jumped halfway off the tensioner and got cut so I called it a day.

What tensioner is everybody using? manual tensioner, replace with new stock one, etc?

thanks

I run a custom manual tensioner, no spring, and an ASP high lip pulley.

I actually have a process.

I put the my normal belt on a manual tensioner and move the tensioner to it's max to stretch the belt. Sometimes I'll drive around like this to stretch the belt a little better.

I then remove that tensioner and put the stock spring tensioner on and ensure that the stock tensioner is just a smidge off of the fully extended limit.

I haven't had a belt get thrown since going this way. If I put an un-stretched belt on the stock tensioner I throw the belt. If I run the manual tensioner I will eventually throw the belt.....it just takes a few weeks.

there was a write up using a 3.8 supercharger tensioner- as it has a high side that keeps the belt from jumping off, and it is cheap when compared to other companies tensioners.

The ASP one is pretty cheap too, but most of us defintely should run a high lip pulley for the idler because of the rpms we run and what the belt does when you let off... the belt is like a sine wave and it whips off.

Why is this a problem? Is it the RPM alone that causes this? I've never had this problem... If it is the RPM, at what point does it start to become a problem? Like I said, no issues here at 6500RPM... Am I just lucky?

Back 6 years ago it was rpms, but now it can also be the belt walking off from when you get off the gas after a hit.

I use a Katech manual tensioner, but my drive belt turns the supercharger. I would think a stock tensioner would be fine if you are not going over 7k on the rpms.

Katech here....its quite nice.

Although my blower drive is dedicated, and also has a manual tensioner.

I think I was only throwing accessory belts, as the stock tensioner was knackered though.

Great info. Thanks man. IF I ever have this problem, I think I'll try that solution first
