Progressive Vortech install with Pics and Q's

Started my Vortech G-trim install today and got a few hours in. I'm doing the install in a huge shed which is a plus but the floor is dirt which sucks. I will take pics of the install as I go for those after me who will be installing. I will also ask a question or two along the way.

Before start

Looks good so far.Good luck.

Thanks Jeff.

One thing I'm not getting is on the power steering pump there is a silver fitting on the left side (in pic) is this fitting supposed to be with the vortech kit? Can you just use the normal fitting that's on there?
Also what goes on top of the pump?

Is this the part that goes to the top of the power steering pump and goes to the bottom of the resevoir?

Yes that is the fitting that goes into the top of the pump with a metal retaining clip that hold it in. and the other just goes on the bottom of the resivor with a clamp and don't for get the O-ring for the pump side. And yes that fitting is supposed to come with the kit and goes to the rack with another an adapter replaces the factory one.

I didn't get this fitting...can I just keep it the way it is with the stock one?

There isn't enough room I don't think. That guy was a real mechanic huh? Man He ought to trade you out for your stock line. You can purchase those fittings from Earls I believe as they are a metric thread to a An fitting. Good luck.

Thanks.
I'll call vortech later today and see what size that fitting is.

So continued on today with the main objective of taking off the harmonic balancer, which turned out to be a tedious job. Being an auto, I had to start with taking off the starter...which wasn't hard, but holding the flywheel tight while my help cranked the bolt, was. To my surprise once i had a firm hold on the flywheel the two of them were able to break the bolt loose relatively easily.
We had three jaw pullers and after about 1 1/2 hours were sick, tired, and cold (Wisconsin winter air) of trying to get the puller to stay on the pulley under pressure. To our relief once I looked at the F-body service manual and saw how they positioned the puller, we had the crank off in a few mins. :jest: Lesson learned: Use service manual.
We also had a break with putting the new ATI dampner and AC pulley on...put some heat to it and it actually slid all the way on (surprised).
Then got to start trying to get the supercharger bracket on. Here's a couple pics.

Starter hanging to expose flywheel (yes I know the ground is dirt)

Positioning puller (not me, I'm taking the pic)

New ATI hub and AC on. Still have to get the rest of the pulleys on and torqued.

SC bracket on. Screwed for the moment until I figure out where to get the fitting for the power steering pump.

If you didn't pin the crank you should, otherwise the balancer will come loose.

Might have to do that. Can you do it with the crank hub on like I have it in the pic? Surprised you can't just use a little bit of locktite.

Yes I have one baseball glove and one racquetball glove. 28 degrees burr.

Inspector12 Dec 29, 2007 12:56 PM

No your going to have to take the balancer off to pin it and the loctite is not going to help you at all.

Does anyone know if I will need to change the belt going from a 2.75 pulley to a 2.85?

Got Me SOM Jan 1, 2008 12:04 PM

you should be ok, the tensioner will take up the slack.

The fitting where you tap for the oil feed, can you get this off without disconnecting the exhaust?

if you are talking about the little nipple above the filter, you should be able to do it with the exhaust still on, I think it is a 8 or 10mm bolts.
