FI and solid roller set up's? I know some of you FI guys are switching to solid roller, can you share on your setup's and pro's/con's please? My machine shop has recomended I go solid roller for valvetrain stability and I'm finding it a little hard to find a good spring with good seat and open pressure for the hydrolic setup anyway, so thinking about switching to solid. Plus, I can rev this thing up alot higher with a solid. I know that good lifters/springs/rockers are a must. I have the rockers taken care of so I would like to hear whats working for you guys on lifters, springs and cams. Oh yeah, are you running Accusumps if your not running a dry sump? |
we have been using the comp cams lifters and cams with great sucess, the morels work great too, manley nextek springs are the only way to go |
I run a solid roller on my Vortech-blown 383 (230/236 112lsa Xtreme SR .574/.585 net lift) and love it. I also have one 2 steps larger in my 434 (242/248 on a 115lsa XSR .60x/.610 net) but haven't fired it yet. The T-trim and entire 383 top end is going to move to it once it's done. I use an entire Comp valvetrain and their Endurex SR Lifters with the pressure oiling. I've got about 7K miles on it the 383 and love it. After the initial cold valve clearance setting followed by a hot adjustment, I've checked it every 500 miles or so and it hasn't needed adjustment yet. My springs are Comp duals w/dampers, IIRC they are 120# seat and 420# @ .625". The idle is very smooth at 700, has a great midrange and pulls very hard to about 6400 before it starts to run out of steam. That's at ~11.7# now and ~600rwhp. I also run a 3-quart Accusump with the electric valve, 5-point breather system remote oil t-stat and filter. Jim My Site: http://home.mindspring.com/~jim_fisk/id1.html |
FWIW, Mike Brown (OHIO BOY) ran a hyd roller in his car this past year and went 7.91 with it so with decent components i dont see why it wont work in your application...I know he turned it 7500-7800 also. Hope this helps. |

Hydraulic roller can be spun to 7500 with the right lifter, rocker arm, pushrod and cam profile, add some Ti intake valves and you can go to 8000. |
Im going solid this time around.... Going with Comps rockers..... i was looking at T&D's and called them up... They said they Make Comps Rockers for them and Comp just stamps them with there name. Comp Cam and Lifters unless we use the Morel Lifters. I know were not planning to spin mine above 7600. Im staying Wet Sump. Kyle |
