Was out driving my turbo Formula all weekend
My friend Neil with Possessed Fabrication had my car a while, he cut out half of my Alston 10 point and redid it. My front bars used to run before the dash, now they run through the dash. He also added a different window net, and the Wolfe parachute mount. Hats off the Neil, it's the least obtrusive 10 point I've ever seen. I never felt like my head was a few inches from hitting the cage like before. And I was able to get the 8.50 cert for my car which is nice.
Anyway, the last time I drove the car more than around the block it overheated pretty bad. Later a friend realized that the pusher fan was acting reversed so both the front and back fans were acting as pushers and the car ran real hot. That got fixed a while ago.
So I of course decided to drive the car Saturday until it stranded me... which didn't happen. Drove it today for another hour, no problems again. Temperature as seen on my Autometer gauge sat around 195 in heavy traffic, on the highway.. etc.... solid in a good way.
I was just driving around on the base boost setting of 16psi, car is laggy below 4500 but above that I would lay rubber for about a block.
Sure had fun this weekend.
I'll take pics tomorrow or Tuesday, today was my son's 1yr b'day party so ran out of time.

Yeah I figured the best way to avoid a wasted day at the track would be to drive it around so that problems would identify themselves. So far the shifter is a bit wonky, I think the linkage needs to be adjusted, when I go from park I have to click it twice to go into reverse. I have a Pro Ratchet.
Also noticed that the body on the passenger side is rubbing on the 325, the body must be squatting quite a bit for that to happen. I'm planning to just run on 28x10.5 stiffs anyway so they will tuck in a bit more.

At least you are doing something with it, I'm waiting for a new insurance company to expand down south that does cars like ours for liability then I will be driving mine again.
The 325s stick out a bit and they will rub on mine as well if you hit some bigger dips. I didnt roll the lips but they would still rub anyhow, they stick out that far.

The Pro Ratchets always have two clicks from reverse to park on GM trans because it is a longer distance betwen those two points than any other trans. I also drove my turbo car all weekend (for the first time) and was very pleased with it. Mine ran at 170 all day yesterday in town driving it around. My first boost car and its still in a very primitive state.....but wow is all I have to say. Boost rules

How many clicks between reverse and first gear (reverse manual valve body)?
I put a front plate on the Formula and it's plated and insured, and I won't be tinting the windows. Car would be a ton of fun to drive if it was quieter. If I did an e-cutout and exhaust to the back of the car it would be pretty awesome, though the parachute got some looks.

"On GM TH-200, TH-250, TH-350, TH-400,
TH200 4R, TH700 R4, 4L60, 4L60E and Powerglide
transmissions it is necessary to shift
the ratchet twice to get from Reverse to Park.
These transmissions have twice the travel
from Reverse to Park as between the other
gears. If you only ratchet once out of
Reverse you will not be fully in Park gear
and the car may move."
This is right out of the instructions at: http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/20.pdf
you click twice from park to reverse and then once for each other gear. If you try getting the shifter to work with only on click into park, the lower gears 1,2,3 will be off and can damage the trans. I have had to personally setup probably 10 Pro ratchets for people who were about ready to rip them out of the car because they couldnt get them to shift right, all because they didnt read the instructions.
BTW, that shifter is probably my favorite -NO nonsense auto-shifter out there.

This is the most fun I've had with the car for a few years, so I"m just enjoying jumping turning it on and driving it around. I haven't made a full 1/4 rip in it, but after driving it around for an hour in 75F weather it's much cooler than it was last year. Hmm maybe I should source some 4" pipe and run the exhaust to the back of the car like a Mufflex.

I pay about 700 a year (clean record) for full coverage on my car with a $50 deduct through travelers.
driving cars is whats up.. its like they were made for it or something...
i have a personal record of 9.2 at 151, DRIVE in, tech, staging lane, make pass. This is not actually doing anything to the car when i get to the track; No tires no shocks, no under the hood etc. Its all worth it on the drive home when it comes together like that.
last year i would push water and have to pop the hood at some point.. this year is hopefully different.

So these insurance companies know about all the mods to your car and they still insure it? I've been hiding mine and just insuring it like a stock car hoping nothing happens. What all does the insurance cover?

Bill Lutz (the heavy street TT guy) finally sourced some liability insurance company for cars like ours, right now they are only writing policies in OH and MI but he hopes to be 50 state soon.
