i had a set repaired several years ago and they are still working well on a nitrous car today. no heat treat.

Aluminum melts at such a low temp (1220*F) that you cant really heat treat it. Certain alloys can be though. You dont really comprimise the strength at all. You heat aluminum up, it melts, and then returns to its its solid state again uneffected.

When Patriot started making "LS6 style" heads the took 6.0L cores welded the chambers then sent them out for heat treat, then machined the chambers.
But that was a lot of welding, across the whole head in every combustion chamber. To repair a head, where the damage is localized, welding it up should not require a heat treat.

Duttweiller is always a big fan of lower timing and lots of boost. Obviously he prefers 6 bolt heads as well..... Cylinder pressure gets crazy with high timing as evidenced by the damage.

That is some nice carnage Stevie and quite a trip for the event especially the crazy tow back. You went nearly 198mph in a box shaped car and a motor that wasn't performing as it should.... I'd say next event 200mph will be a cakewalk. You are crazy to be running that timing and boost on anything less than 116 octane. Always have plenty of octane... A 1400-1450* EGT max on my Turbo V6 (Buick 3.8i Grand National) yielded the best mph for me. Remember to make the correction for outside air temp.

Considering you can get a used LS1 crankshaft for around $100... I would chuck your old one if it needs to be turned more than .010"mains/.010" rods. They make nice boat anchors.

Impressive feat nonetheless! 198mph is nothing to sniffle at considering the car's aerodynamics.
