When is spark blow out an issue

i am wanting to know if at 10lbs with tr6 plugs gapped at .035 is spark blow out an issue with stock ignition at higher rpms?i have been getting some cutting out at higher rpms with no fuel problems.:emb:

I would close the plug gap to 28-30. See how that works out for you.
Is this the LT1 motor in your sig??? If so, your opti spark could be going bad.

yeah it is.its also a 94 so it has the very problematic non vented opti. i am trying to make sure it isnt anything else before killing my wallet on another opti.so is spark blow out even a possibility at my boost level?

Its worth it to pull out the plugs and close the gap up. I was having the same issues but i'm at 18-19psi. I went from tr6's@.032 to tr7's@.025 and it took care of it. Cheap fix :)

IMO I'd go with Funkybird. Change to 7's and close the gap up to 25-28. You can lose spark any time. More the worse. At a couple dollars a plug it is a cheap fix.

ok ,well like said, sounds like a cheap fix if it is the culprit so i will give a try....is there any adverse effects on anything when closing the gapso small?

Funkybird 10-05-2008 05:41 PM

I have been told you may have worse idle quality and maybe less fuel mileage but I haven't noticed either.

I drove a car with TR8's around and around and never had plug problems.

lt170chevelle 10-06-2008 07:10 PM

ok well i closed the gap and idle seems to be worst...has a random thud kinda miss in low rpm idle..it also feels like it has lost some power....its been raining so i havent really been able to see if it did clear up my high rpm breakup.i did spray the plugs with some carb cleaner ..maybe that caused the random idle miss?can carb cleaner foul plugs if doused?

lt170chevelle 10-06-2008 07:11 PM

oh yeah and when i was regappiing them hey were at .030 instead of .035....

You're going to need an ignition box such as an MSD 6 to run 10psi+ clean with an obd1 lt1 ignition.
