Default Smell fuel from inside car and overflow?

Got my car yesterday and when i filled it up, i noticed i could smell fuel like i was at the gas station still for quite some time inside the car! As the tank got lower the smell went away. However when i filled up again, just before the nossel clicked on the pump i heard a splash... Sure enough under my car was gas. It leaked out where my bucket seals to the top of the tank... This would explain why i could smell fuel also. Isnt this supposed to be air tight? What might have gone wrong there and/or be missing? Thanks!

yea, dual pumps were just installed. Should i replace the o-ring, or use RTV instead, or use both?

use silicone as a seal for a fuel system. It can/will turn to "snot", and make a serious mess.
Replace the o'ring.

EXACTLY what my car did after changing the fuel pump in a LT1 Camaro.
fuel/gas would overflow under the car when I reached full at the gas station and then would leak out from under the car whenever I created any G forces with the tank full.
I would leave a trail of gas and have a strong smell in the car(I still had'nt sealed my trap door).

I found the seal not sitting fully around.

F**k,...without this site and the search function I would have given up on this car a year ago.

Now,...*will it ever end!?*,...new "used"fuel pump setup has fuel guage stuck on way past full,...I'm thinking I better swap the new "used" Walbro onto my old(fuel guage working fine) sending unit.
