Dave i am in the process of fitting two 044 inside my tank with a 255 also. but it helps haveint a 12" sq hole to work in. lol

MM, try ATL fuel cells. I bought two screw on stainless mesh filters from them for my 044's 2 years ago and they are self cleaning. They look like the small filter most folks put on a valve cover but is made out of stainless mesh.

im thinking about just rolling with only the screen built into it

Too long ago for me to remember..made for an easy install since they screwed right into the pump. Self cleaning was a plus too.
