Ignition problem: Key won't turn far enough. Today I went to my car to go to lunch and it wouldn't start. The key will turn far enough to turn the lights and radio on, but will barely turn at all further than that (not enough to crank the car). After doing some reading, I thought it was the switch but now that I have everything taken apart, I'm not so sure. Even with the switch off the column, the key won't turn any further than it did before. Is the actuator bar sticking or something? Do I need to replace the ignition cylinder itself or was I right in assuming it was the switch and a new one will fix the problem? I'm at a loss here. BTW, I never had any symptoms at all of a bad switch like most others have reported. HALP! |
What kind of car are you working on? Stick or automatic? If the switch is in your hand, can you move it past the point that the radio and lights go on? It will be hard because it is spring loaded. |
