Default Quesiton about using v6 Fuel Pump in V8 Swap

I'm looking into doing a ls1 swap in my 2001 fbody.

The operating pressure of the V8 is 58psi.
I'm not sure about v6 operating pressure and LS1 cars have a " fuel return line".

The fuel pump I have in the v6 is only 2 years old OEM GM replacement.

I want to avoid dropping the tank / the access door mod to replace an almost brand new pump.

Can I can use the v6 pump and with an "In-Line" fuel pump, to make up for any of the operating pressure volume the v6 pump might not have?

What about the return line?

TIA

Chances are both stock pumps flow approx the same.

Your problem will be fuel pressure control as the V6 has an engine mounted regulator & the LS1 has a tank mounted regulator.

I have new V8 factory senders if you want to upgrade.

I checked on Delco and Delphi fuel pumps and part numbers were different between V-6 and V-8 models in both brands. I did find a product specs note for Delphi that stated V-6 flow rate 18.8 and V-8 flow rate 29.9. That is a heck of a difference in volume. I don't know if this information helps any but it is what it is.

So you are saying that since the v6 regulator is on the engine and since the engine is being pulled and swapped for v8, that the regular will need to be upgraded/added to the tank anyways correct?
So the sender tells the pump the right pressure to provide and the regulator makes sure its constant? Would he need both from a v8 for the swap to have good/safe pressure?

Regulators are mechanical devices, the computer or pump does not control any pressure.

You either have to add an external regulator to the existing return line & adapt to the V8 fuel rail or swap to V8 lines/sender for proper operation.

v6 models didn't have the return line, so either the lines will have to come from a donor v8 car or make your own return line.

Someone on a different forum has done it, i 'll update this thread after i get the info.

Thanks! That information is definitely food for thought.

Excuse me , but being very new to the engine building aspect, still learning about fuelig.

What exactly is the return line?
What is the purpose and does it run all the way back to the fuel pump it self from rails?

Aftermarket pumps such as racetronics seem the way to go since the car wont remain stock (v6 pump might be ok for stock ls1 ,if that, but it might not be enough after).

Does the racetronics unit replace the pump in the trunk?

Also what about inline fuel pumps? How do those work?

Thanks
