Default 93 octane?

2000 camaro ss ls1. Bolt-ons. 228r tsp cam. 243 heads. I was wondering if I can run a higher octane fuel to gain a little more power. Or octane booster. If anyone has any insight of the pros and con's. Thanks!

Don't waste ur $ on higher grade of fuel than 93. If u raised the compression, than sure. Don't run anything less then 93 for best performance

Cool. I normally run 91. I just have never run any higher. Was wanting to start running 93 since there is some now available one town away.

Higher octane fuel wont give you more power unless you tune for it.

Isn't the ECM made to retard timing as knock occurs? Since the engine was likely designed with 93 octane in mind, then it would pull timing with 91 octane fuel. This would mean he would get more power running 93 than 91, without tuning the motor.

He's not bumping to race gas (or above mfr spec), so wouldn't this hold true?

If he got tuned with 91 octane in it bumping to 93 wont make a difference, the timing is dialed in for 91. If he got it retuned with 93 in it, I could see bumping the timing up and pulling a bit more out of the car but it would not be much. The PCM won't go "oh 93 lets advance the timing for more power" and I hope it wasn't tuned with knock in it to where 93 would stop it from knocking. Do you have any knock? My motor has 11.8 compression ratio and i run 91 with 29 degrees of max timing with no knock.

Run the octane your tuner says to use. He either tuned it for 91 or 93.
