HELP ASAP... Holley fuel rail install, need grounding strap??
 

Hey guys I'm installing a Holley fuel rail set and instructions say to use a strap to mount under one fuel rail mounting bolt and run it under intake mounting bolt.. I have never heard of this before.. IS THIS NEEDED??

i would guess it can't hurt.
i thought fuel injectors have a ground wire in their connector,
only thing i can think of is if the injectors you have with your fuel rail setup relies on the case of the injector touching metal to make ground then you would need some sort of conductor to ground- cause you have the o-ring between the injector and manifold which is an insulator and you would have to look at how things make to find a conductive path back to ground which is the engine block / starter housing / neg. battery cable. oh and if the intake manifold is all plastic well that's non conductive.
need to post model of fuel rail and some pics otherwise i can only make an educated electrical guess

I'm going to agree with 1 FMF and say the strap would be useless with everything being plastic. Perhaps its just a safety feature since sparks and fuel dont mix. Where would the sparks come from? Got me on that one. But everything will run fine without a strap.

The circuits in the injs are isolated from any contact w/ metal surfaces.
The + is one side, the ground side is controlled by the ecm, not thru a ground strap.
Grounding the neg circuit will turn on the injs as soon as the key is turned.

Same reason corvette filters have a ground trap, to prevent an accidental arc. fuel going though system can create a static charge. A company has to cover their ass with stuff like that. Doesn't have anything to do with injector firing.

If the manifold was aluminium you would never need a ground strap because it's all already grounded because it's aluminium.

It wouldnt be essential to ground metal rails on a plastic intake, but it will certainly do no harm and would ensure no static can build up, or get discharged accidentally.

The injectors are seated with rubber O rings, they never touch the intake or rails. Like said earlier , it's for static electricity. And the injectors are drove off the ground from the ECM.

That stock rails do not even have a grounding strap do they? Unless I have been blind to it all these years.

the reason they are saying to install grounding straps is both to ground the intake manifold in case of a static charge building up and electrolysis. Both fuel and air can build up a static charge in a plastic intake manifold just like how when you rub a rubber balloon on the carpet it builds up a charge. Not that its really dangerous, it could start a fire if the fuel system was open accidentally (a leak somewhere, or during maint).
