Default Rubber found in fuel filter

So being in Florida and after irma been having fuel issues. I found a small piece of rubber size of pinky finger nail clipping. I have perfect fuel pressure, 58-60psi. At first thought it was from pump, but pressure is great. Rubber was too big to make it thru sock for sure, but got trapped in pump. Any thoughts where it came from?? No rip in sock. Lines are perfect.... Is it the pump even though perfect pressure?? Tank is clean as a whistle... Help!!
Thx in advance

"Lines are perfect"- on the OUTSIDE. Could they be disintegrating on the INSIDE?
ALSO- Could just be a piece of inner hose liner that shaved off while installing on a fitting, and only lately freed itself and caught in the filter?

He's right the inside of the hose has more protection than the outside to handle fuel exposure and it sounds like that is the only source it could be from if the sock is perfect.

But the line that snaps into the fuel filter all the way to the pump is the Bendy plastic type. I have it removed anything but the fuel filter hose recently nor the pump until I found that and look inside the tank after signing that piece of rubber

What about any in-tank hoses? Not sure there are any, just thinking out loud...

Was the rubber in the fuel filter? Sure it wasn't there when it was put on?

A "pinky fingernail clipping" piece of rubber would perfectly describe a shard sliced off while putting something on a barb fitting. Any such fittings in your setup?
