Default Fuel pump running while car is off? Ractronix pump & HW

I've noticed after the Racetronix pump and Hotwire kit install, my fuel pressure jumps up periodically out of the blue. Usually it drops to 0 after a day or so sitting but I noticed today (been sitting for a week) that it was reading about 40lbs then after a couple minutes jumped again to 60? There's really nothing I could've screwed up installing it or the wiring since it was so easy to hook up. What could be causing this and did this happen to anyone else?

Is the pump wired to run only with the key on? If so you have a short somewhere.

Yeah, it's connected to the stock plug on the harness in the back and the hot wire to the alternator. Never had this problem before. It doesn't run constantly and I've never even heard it kick on....never wouldn't have even noticed it until I saw the pressure rise out of nowhere.

Is the gauge electric or mechanical? If electric, it might be bad.

So the gauge is showing pressure with the key OFF, correct?
This indicates an electrical problem; either the gauge is acting goofy, or the pump is actually on intermittently.
Could you actually hear the pump run?

Duh, excuse my ignorance since it's late and I'm beat. I was thinking fuel level gauge...oops. It's a mechanical pressure gauge right on the rail. Can't hear the pump run but I'm sure it is like you said, intermittently running. Tomorrow sometime I'm going to disconnect the line from the rail and watch it to see what happens and how often it's kicking on. Weird problem as I know it was hooked up right.
