Cold Fuel I was at some guy's house and he's got a '76 chevy truck. He popped open the hood and had a cannister with his fuel line going in and was wound around very tightly on the inside of the can. He says he packs that cannister with crushed ice and a little water to get the fuel cold. How does this help?
the 'cool can' was used on the inlet side of the engine mounted mechanical fuel pumps,prevented engine heat from 'vaporizing' the fuel at the pumps' inlet.The pumps' inlet,during operation,would see less than atmospheric pressure(since it was sucking from the tank) and gasoline at lower than atmospheric pressure and at elevated temperatures(engine heat)will vaporize away from its' liquid state.
