100 Octane, wastin my money?
 

I have a Corporate Sonoco down the street now with Cam2 100 octane. I have been filling up the car every time with it. Car seems to run like a champ. 11.25-11.5/1 compression, 7000 rev limiter, really makes the difference on how smooth it is after 5500, especially in the heat down here. The car seems to surge less and idles a little better too. Or maybe its in my head. Am I wasting my money throwing it in my car? Maybe a blend would be better, or just go back to 93. $6 is friggin expensive. Opinions?

i mix 4 gallons 100 with about 3/4 tank of premium when i go racing or get on the dyno.. works like a charm.

Octane rating is the ability of a fuel to resist detonation. Thats all. In a nutshell, if your engine doesnt require it, its a waste.
thats not to say that you couldnt run more timing and possibly make more power. But again, if you crank up the timing to the point of detonation then your engine requires it.

Well you can usually count on specialty fuels being more consistant from batch to batch, but your mileage may vary so to speak depending on their sales volume.
This can result in more stable idle and more consistent performance. I'm not saying its worth it if the car doesn't need it but it is a benifit.

From another angle, how high can compression be, without a timing adjustment (standard timing?), using 93 octane?

Why not switch to E85? Over here it 2.80ish a gallon.
