3.73 or 3.90 or 4.10 for A4 ( track only ) vote
Hello everyone
Can u tell me the best gear set for my A4 ls1
a lot of ppl said take 4.10 if u wanna use it for drag race only
but I don't want to hurt my stock 10 bolt,
even some ppl said 3.73 or 3.90 are better to use with A4 automatic trans and faster at 1/4
i couldn't find 3.90 or 4,10 gears For 2 series carrier which its my gears type
Some information about the car:
Bolt on
Stock 10 bolt
Stock 4l60e transmission
2 series carrier
Not for daily use
so from ur experience which gears I should buy
thaaanx

you can run a 3 series ring and pinion in a 2 series carrier with a spacer (I am doing it on my 80 TA). I would personally say 3.73 but you can run a 4.10 if it is drag only. Also depends on if you are runing 1/4 or 1/8th. 1/8 I would say 4.10 but in the 1/4 I would want the 3.73s.

Any of the major gear vendors offer a gear for the 2 series carrier. They call them thick gears. I think Motive and Summit are the only 2 that offer 3.90s for the 7.625/7.5 though.

I voted 3.90, if it were a street car (like mine) I would have picked 3.73 which is what i have. The 4.10 will only benifit you if you have a 4,000 stall, with the best heads and cam setup with a 7,000+ rpm redline.
I know a guy who had 4.10 in his auto with bolt-ons, mild cam, 3500 stall, went 12.6 @ 109, the only change he made was going to 3.73 and went 12.4 @ 112 . We beleive he was falling out of his power band before the end.
Our auto's don't really need that low of a gear, our first gear is already low at 3.08 vs your other auto's such as th350 and th400 which usually have a 2.45 ratio. so a 4l60e with 3.73's is like a th350 with 4.10, except the 4l60e with 3.73 will give you better top end

I find that hard to believe. Was he going in to OD? Traction issues? Same car with more gear until Shifting to OD should be faster. Im going 4.10's and would love some more info on his car and and why you think a higher gear gave him 2 tenths and 3 mph.

traction was a little better, and the fact that the car was in its power band longer.
when i was playing around with my shift points at the track, I gained about .15tenths from shifting at 6,300 instead of 6,500. the car was in its power band for longer letting the car acc. better. with 4.10 and mild cam/stall it will want to pull the rpm past 6,300 before the trap, past peak torq.
I voted 3.90 because it is a track only car, and as long as he runs a taller tire 27 or 28 inch he should still have room for top end, i have 3.73 and 3600 stall with a 26 inch tire, and if i were to change things i would try 4,000 stall and 3.42 gears. But i don't have the time or money to be swapping back and forth, but big end racers do.
But really you can't say what gear will do best for just a track only car. We need more info ie;
what times do you want to run? what tires? weight reduction? cam? heads? cubic inch? power adder?
