Spool? yes or no? if so what brand?
ALright guys so i'm going to be piecing together a 9in for my camaro which is not my DD and only comes out on nice days for cruises and the occational sunday drive. But the car also see's the track alot, like everyother friday. So what i'm tryin to decide is should i do a spool? I'm on a budget and know a spool is going to be cheaper than a true-trac or a detriot locker for sure. I just want to know how bad it will be on the street? The rear end will be a 9in housing and axle from Quick Performance Inc. with either their axles or moser axles which with be 35 spline no matter which brand i go with. The gear ratio will be 4.11's.
Now what i'm asking is do you guys think the spool will be too severe for the street? I think i can handle it i just want to know if there is anything i should know before i jump into this? And also what is a good brand spool?

Well parking wont really be an issue as normally i park far away from everyone and not it tight spaces, and like BlackScreaminMachine mentioned his broken true trac, i just dont want to spend 500 or so bucks on one and have it break when a spool is one cheaper by far, and is stronger?
Anyone else have input? How bad is it going to eat up my tires?

I Just installed my 9" from Midwest chassis. I also was up in the air with the true trac, lockers and didnt like the opinions so I opted Spool. My car is a weekend warrior with, im sure more visits now with the 9" and I went 4.11 spooled with 35 splined axles.

Running a spool on the street is not too bad. Its going to chatter the inside tire on turns and be careful if you caught out in bad weather. Moser and strange both have reasonably priced spools. Moser spools are $150 for steel and $165 for aluminum. Strange spools are $189. Give me a call if you need one.
