Default what kind of gasket for Strange 12-bolt

I was wondering if anybody knew what 12-bolt gasket fit a strange 12-bolt. I know it sounds a bit silly but the last time I dropped the cover I went to Autozone for a gasket and they wanted a year/make/model etc. I think I said something like a 71 chevelle. The gasket "worked" but didn't seem to match up just right to the housing (2 of the bolt holes were about 1/3 covered up by the gasket). I thought that the diff cover and bolt spacing should be the same but I guess I was wrong. So anybody know of one that fits perfect?

thanks

I bought one for my strange 12 bolt it was just the normal 12 bolt car rearend I think I used a 70 chevelle big block car as reference no problems with the fit you might have just got a mispunched gasket. It was purchased at a local Napa store.

I bought one this week at AutoZone. Told them the car was a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport with a 396 ci engine. Perfect fit.

It is manufactured by Fel-Pro, Part Number RDS55029.

The link to the AutoZone webiste (as of 7/5/09):

AutoZone Axle Housing Gasket Fel Pro RDS55029

(I know that this is too late to help HossinatorSS but by putting it in here now it will be easier for me to find using the Search function the next time I need a new gasket)

i don't use a gasket. Just run a bead of black silicone around it.

I agree, gaskets usually leak. A nice even bead of silicone RTV allowed to dry before dumping in fluid works great!

I just use "right stuff" rtv, no gaskets. It's a little pricey but it's amazing stuff.........you can put fluid in it immediately and it won't leak.
