Default 5/8" studs + stock wheels?

I've got a set of 35 spline gun drilled moser axles that have 5/8" screw in studs. Moser tells me that they don't have a way to get 1/2" studs into that axle because they're also star flanges, so no way to drill another set of holes for 1/2" studs - nor do they have a 1/2" screw in stud that works in the same hole diameter as the 5/8" stud. 1/2 screw in studs have .479" holes while the 5/8" have .579 holes.

SO... I'm a bit stuck. I need to keep my stock wheels, which I think means that I HAVE TO use 1/2" studs.

Has anyone ever had stock wheels machined to fit 5/8" studs?

Otherwise, I'm thinking my only other option is to get another set of axles w/ 1/2" studs?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just called Moser again and its $80 to have the holes drilled out to .620" to fit the 1/2" studs.

I'm guessing this is probably my best option...

I just did some research on this and it seems there are some circle track lugs that will work with the stock wheels and position em correctly, but you may have t o drill the holes on the wheels some possibly. I havnt tried anything yet and am still decidingw hat options to go with on my rearend so if you do figure it out I'd really appreciate letting us know how you did it!

Yea, I thought about drilling out the factory rims too... but something about drilling on a cast aluminum wheel didn't sound too bright to me considering the power I'm aiming for.

I think I'm going to downsize to 31 spline and sell the 35ers off to someone that can use 5/8" studs. I can't see having a killer axle like this drilled for 1/2 studs...

Which circle track lugs are you referring to? I'd love to know!

Probably a bad idea considering that you're dealing more with shearing force there too which I can't see helicoils working well with...

What about press-in 1/2" studs? Option?

Fwiw, I've never seen a 5/8" circle track acorn style lugnut. Most tracks require a 1" hex lugnut.
