LOUD 9" Rear-end....Help
#61
Wow really came back from the dead!
I took my aftermarket driveshaft and had it lengthened. It was pretty short and barely hanging off the output shaft of my trans.....it helped by like 5db aka... didn't do **** about the noise.
I haven't done anything with it since, I will most likely take it to a shop here and have new gears put in and setup. Hopefully they can get it right..
BTW, I have a strange aluminum center section on mine.

I put in 3 bottles of the friction reducer, the sound changed but did not go away. I think I am gonna put in 5 more bottles and see what happens. It seems to be doing something. lol

Im dealing with the exact same sound in my 9", its so loud it hurts the ears. Here's the kicker though...I borrowed a 3.73 31 spline unit that I knew to be quiet and howls EXACTLY like my previous 4.11 set. I just don't get it...makes no sense. I don't know where to even start now for a fix, since my problems obviously aren't gear related. I've even swapped in my spare T56 just to see it anything changed at all.

ill throw this information out. check how much play is in your pinion as well. when i received my 9in, it would whine loud as hell on decel...the pinion moved around quite a bit....side to side...what happened is the new yolk was shorter than the pinion shaft...and it just got loose...i took off the nut and put in a few washers and tightened it up...pretty quiet rear end now...
