noticeable gain from 3.23 to 3.73? after school gets out i plan on ordering some motive performance 3.73 gears and was wondering if it will make any noticeable difference? i've read different responses with people saying gears didn't help them at the track and people saying it helped by about 3tenths and a couple mph. should the gears really wake my car up on the street? i only have a couple bolt-ons and didn't know how much 3.73s would benefit my car. and also will it help out the dead spots from a roll? |
Oh yes you will notice. It will be snappier. You will like it. Then get a stall..I'm going to get the SS3600 soon. I heard it will really be fun to drive then.. :) |
Its a great seat of the pants gain but Im gonna tell ya to not waste your money right now. If you wanna see a nice gain buy a 3500 stall converter. You will gain close to half a second with that and it will wake your car up alot more then the gears.I wish I would have done some research before I did my gears instead of a converter. |

so you're saying 3.23s with a stall is gonna be quicker than 3.73s with a stall? i plan on getting a stall eventually but not at this moment And I just went from 3.42's to 3.73's and all I can say is WOW. |

3.73s with a stall will be much faster than 3.23s with a stall. BUT if you were given a choice between a stall or gears first, you will gain the MOST with the converter so you will be able to enjoy the car much sooner. I had a Yank SS 4000 stall when my car was all stock and with a 125 shot it went 11.60's all day. I now have an FTI (much better) 4000 stall and 3.73 gears and they go great together. You will be much happier if you do the converter first then the gears when you get a chance. And I just went from 3.42's to 3.73's and all I can say is WOW. |
I wouldnt even say it would be funner to drive with just gears over just the stall.Just trying to give ya the the best all around gain for your money. |
i just put in 3.73s and i already had 3.23s and a 3200 stall. My first impressions were that the car seemed quicker, more powerful and faster. After putting about 200 miles on the gears the car seems almost back to the old version at WOT. maybe i just got used to it quick. What i haven't gotten used to is the 500 rpm jump on the hwy. i dont like it at all. Long gone are the days of cruising at 70mph at 2k. now its about 24-2500 rpm. my exhaust is really loud so that may be why its so annoying. |
I recommend you get a Vigilante 3,200 converter..and then the gears.. |
dont you have to get a converter tuned? and a tranny cooler on top of that? |
The tune and cooler are HIGHLY recommended yes. |
Night and day difference over the 3.23. Love my 3.73's! |
I've been thinking about the same thing but had been wondering about a stall converter. How exactly does it work? |
how much will the 3.73 gears bring down your top end speed? |
I went from 3.08 to 3.70 and it made a great seat of the pants experience. Also my quartermile times dropped 4 tenths of a second.. need a stall c though |
do it and dont look back THEN get a stall unless your handy and fell like pulling the tranny |
