Default Which part to grind (gear or thrust plate) for 4:10?

I'm installing a 4:10 in a series 3 with Zexel Torsen posi. The thrust block wont clear the ring gear and I can't find a paddle kit (and I dont want to spend $150 if I did find it). I've seen write up's before that say grind the block. I've also seen write ups that say grind the teeth on the ring gear. I dont want to screw up the torsen but yet I also dont want to weaken the ring gear or reduce contact with the pinion. So which part do I grind?
