Rear Axle Housings
Are the axle housings for a 2 series carrier the same as the housings for a 3 series carrier?
For example, if I had a 2.73/3.08 rear end and wanted to install a 3 series carrier with 3.42 gears, would all I need to change is the carrier, ring & pinion, and swap over the ABS reluctor (3 channel rear end)?
Just wondering if the change between the series is just within the carrier, or did the housing design, offset, or anything else change between the series?
Josh

housings are the same for the 2 and 3 series, internals should swap right over. Now the 3 and 4 channel those housings/axles are slightly different bc of the location of the speed sensors and reluctor wheels.
Basically what im saying is, there is no 2 and 3 series housing. The difference in the housing and axles is wether its traction control (4 channel) or not (3 channel)

Actually if you change to the 3 series carrier case you need to get the appropriate abs reluctor ring for the 3 series carrier case. They are different and will give you issues if not changed. Basically your abs will not function right.

Yea I know about the relector between the 3 and 4 channel. Basically If you have a rear end with a 3.08 and you wanted to upgrade to an 3 series eaton carrier with 3.42 gears would it fit into the axle that was housing? ...
