richmond 3.73's...are they good?

I am thinking of purchasing a set of USED Richmond 3.73's that have about 5,000 miles on them. The cost is going to be $80 shipped and was just wondering a few things:

1-Are these good gears or will they go out on me quick?
2-Is it a good deal?
3-other than the gears...what else should I replace when I have it apart (locker, etc.)???

Thanks
Fry

<<edit>>

I was just informed that the gears came from an lt1 t/a, so they will still work right? I also noticed on speed.com that there are two choices of richmond gears, one that is for a '2 series carrier' and one that is not....what is the difference?

The 2 series carrier is for cars that came with 2.73 gears or any thing smallier than 3.23. you would need the 3 series carrier. the three series is stronger

Yea you will need the 3 series, I love my richmonds I have absolutely no whine and they improved preformance greatly. Just make sure you have them installed by someone who knows what they are doing, when you get the gears inspect them for any chipped/broken teeth both on the ring and the pinion. Good Luck

thanks guys, I am sending payment out as soon as I get the sellers address.

What else other than the gears should I replace while I am in there?

I assume it is the 3 series he is selling?
Unless you are getting these installed cheap, I would skip the 3.73's all together. Save up for 4.10's. Not much gain going from 3.42 to 3.73 unless you add a cam to compliment the gear selection.

Well I am getting these for $80 shipped, and me and my buddy are going to put the gears in. So it is worth the money. As for 4.10's I dont really want to go that high (yet) because I dont like spending buttloads of money on gas. Also I plan on heads and cam in about a year so it will all add up. And yes they are the 3 series gears, I made sure of that.

Good buy then for sure.

If the gears whined when he had them in and if they have a wear pattern in them. Chances are they will whine even if you get them properly setup. Be careful a gear install isn't cheap. If you buy a set of bad gears and have to replace them then it's not such a great deal. I would buy new if I were you and not have any worries...
