Default How stiff should a 12 bolt be?

I have a strange 12 bolt and I noticed with it up on jack stands that you can't spin the tires freely. I pulled the brakes off and unhooked the drive shaft. The rear end is really stiff. I would think with everything off of it the things would spin freely. It takes both hands to turn it a little at a time. Does anyone know what kind of pre-load I should have on this thing. Or how hard is yours to spin.

As long as you have those off (and the wheels too) , the total preload on the 10 bolt is like 35 in/lbs for a new build (that's without the axles). I would pull the axles and check that it is around there or less to be sure.

So you do check the preload with the diff. in and just remove the axles?
