Default WHAT THE...?!? I have a steel driveshaft??

I thought all LS1 F-Body cars had aluminum driveshafts?

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Is the aluminum that big of an advantage? Would it be worth the 100 bucks to swap it out?

That's exactly what I'm doing. Found one here in the classifieds for a hundred bucks and I'll have a DS shop give it new joints and spin check it's balance.

I was wondering if it was worth it too but wasnt ready to drop the coin for it..... I got lucky and found one at a junk yard a few days ago, got it for $15 bucks and swapped in new u joints. Its probably about 5-7 lbs lighter tan the steel one i cant say I feel a differenc driving but 5-7lbs rotating mass is a lot so idk...

I'm not expecting any changes when I put it in. My brother had a '86 5.0 back in the day and he said of all the minor bolt-on mods he did, upgrading to an aluminum driveshaft was the only one that he felt made an improvement.

I'm making the change because I'd like to drop a few pounds here & there when I can, the current one surely needs U-joints at 160K so it has to come out anyway and it's pretty rusted up & fuggly.
