I have had it over 140 and no where near topped out.

A4 w/ 4.10s I can still bury the speedo but it is screaming. I have a few more mods then you with a smaller stall and smaller cam and my car moves out pretty damn good. My dr's still spin in 1st and some of 2nd, also on 100% 177k mile suspension tho.

Why do you want such a low gear?

just be cause of the dead spots with 3.23s,roll racing sucks with them

you didn't like the roll racing dead spots with 3.23s',so comment on how you like the roll racing with the 4.10s'.
I'm running A4 4.56s',1st and 2nd are wicked,anything above that is all dead spot. Granted I'm stock engine and 2800 stall,where you're cammed and 3500 stall,but I configured it for street from a dig,

You do know that with the stock trans you aren't supposed to go into 4th at WOT right? So essentially its a 3 speed. With stock tires i topped 3rd somewhere around 118. With the 28" I can get to around 130 in third. This is with a redline of 6500.

WOT in 4th is usually not a good thing....over-run clutches and drums like to burn up when being abused, as far as I've been told by the guys at FLT that built my level5 4l80e. I'll take their word for it. Drag race only in 1-2-3....leave overdrive for highway "cruizin'".

i cant even finish the 1/4 in 3rd its shifts before the line. i havnt had any problems goin into 4th in the quarter tho. I cant see any way it hurt mine. but i may be wrong anyone care to elaborate?

Plain and simple, its bad on the transmission. 4th gear is an overdrive gear meant for fuel economy. It is not as strong as the other gears and by going WOT in 4th you are much more likely to break your trans.

You may have been getting away with it, but it is not good for it, and will almost 100% damage it one day.

If you have a tune, 4th gear should be locked out at WOT anyways, meaning top of 3rd would be your top speed.

IIRC mine with 27" tires was around 140mph.. Been a while though.

Why would you want a stalled A4 for roll racing? Swap an an M6 if that is what you want to do with stock 3.42 gears.

I have been doin it for the whole season and have seen no adverse affects on the trans. Its built with the best hard parts and so on. And why if i had a tune would 4th gear be locked at WOT? i didnt know that was common practice for an A4 tune. But i tune all myself so im no pro.

And how do you plan in goin through the 1/4 in 3rd and not being on the limiter? i havnt even tried it but with a 26 inch tall tire im sure i would be

4th gear at wot (especially with a larger converter) puts major stress on the trans. Every stalled/tuned car I have owned 4th has been locked out.

That is easy.. Go to a 28" tire. Just match the gear/tire so you cross the traps at red line in 3rd, it will make one less shift and cross in the power band.
