Why does my rear-end groan only after a few hundred miles of highway driving?
I have a 2002 A4 Z28 with around 73,000 miles. It still has the factory rear end.
After driving for 2 hours on the highway, I pulled over to an exit and turned at a gas station. While hitting the breaks to roll to a stop, I was hearing a groan coming from the rear. I'm not sure if the groan was coming from the brakes or from the rear end. Could this be a symptom of a rear end going bad or brakes going bad (even though new pads and rotors were installed less than 10,000 miles ago)? The groan eventually went away after the car was given at least 10 minutes to cool down.
Thank you in advance for the info.
