Are you using a gasket or RTV?

22 ft lbs is WAY TOO MUCH...... you will crush the gasket and warp your cover. I use 120 inch lbs with gasket and RTV no leaks. DO NOT USE 22 FT LBS.

Default Differential Cover Torque Specs.....

As per my previous reply DO NOT USE 22FT/LBS or more to torque on the cover if you use a purchased gasket such as felpro....YOU WILL CRUSH THE GASKET AND WARP YOUR COVER RUINING IT!!!!! I used the gasket and a little bit of permatex black and torqued to between 100 to 120 inch lbs last time and this time....no leaks and no crushed gasket..... i put way too many miles on for this change but you can see how many years its been with no leaks at all....hope this helps someone out........

Default Changing Differential Oil.......

On a side note.... make sure you get the oil that runs out into the bottom bolt holes out by putting in the bolts and pushing the oil out and then some twisted paper towel pieces to soak up the rest BEFORE you try to mate the new gasket and bolt it up with the cover. If you don't get that oil out it will come out as you put the bolt in and push through your gasket you just made as you tighten it down and possibly leak..... i discovered this trick long ago by trial and error LOL....

22 lb-ft is correct per the Helms (GM) manual.
