the all around street driving is way better going from 3.42s to 411s.

However I honestly feel like i should have went 456!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That really doesn't make any sense.

How is changing from 4.10's to 4.56's going to make your 3rd to 4th gear shift any better?? Between those two gears, you still drop the EXACT same amount of RPM during the shift, so the engine is making the same exact amount of power. The only difference is you're shifting out of 3rd at a lower speed with the 4.56's.

As for power loss, its a proven fact that the higher the ratio (shorter the gears) the more power you lose to the wheels. On high horsepower cars (700-800HP) you're looking at around 7-10% loss going from 3.55's to 4.56's.

The car is not going to accelerate any faster in 3rd gear with 4:10's than it will with 3.42's. Acceleration is a matter or power produced, not gearing.

The RPM's will climb faster, but the speedometer will not.

After reading all this I'm still not sure if I'm going to splurge for the 4.10's yet. Even though I'll be shifting close to 6700 rpm. For now I'll stick with the 3.42's.

^ Same here.. I'll wait till I'm in a more stable financial position to buy a 9" with some drag wheels before I mess with the rear. I don't drive the car much right now anyway and I may be looking at relocation (again) in the next year as it is.

Disregard Wesman, you couldn't even convince him the sky is blue if he thought otherwise and he will not submit to cognitive dissonance.

His ego defense mechanisms are very strong.

I dont think so, my M6 (3.42) would be at 2000 RPM at 80MPH.

1500 RPM at 65mph.

Gears multiply torque. This gives mechanical leverage. Your last sentence is just wrong.

How do they handle on just plain non sticky street tires? I'm thinking they'll start to spin when you get in the upper rpms.

I've never had a single slip issue nor have any of my local friends that run 3.90's and 4.10's through their M6 with street tires. I hit the gears hard in the upper RPM's too. You would have to be putting down some monster power or run across some poor street conditions to have slipping occur. My advice if you get them is don't drop the hammer from a dead stop...ease into 1st gear and then get on it and you should be fine from slipping and breaking your 10 bolt. 4.10's will put a smile on your face and you won't look back. Get GM brand gears as well.

Going from the 3.42s to 4.10s was one of the best mods I had done at that point. Now Im even thinking of stepping up to a 4.30s or even 4.56s (I have 28" tires).

My little brother's Z28 is similar to yours H/C/I with the 3.42s and it feels so sluggish and seems like a dog. He'll be getting my 4.10s once I get the new rear in my car.

I have driven cars that were very similar to mine when my car was just bolt ons except for the gears (I had 4.10s and they had 3.42s) and the difference is night and day. I say do it and never look back.
