No, it was a much older thread than that. I had started it at the old shop and it was made a sticky. I'm not sure what happened to it. Bob

you can add this to a new 'sticky'
GM 10 bolt 4 channel out of a 2001 SS fluid drained;
-complete with rotors,backing plates+dust shields-178 lbs.
-less rotors,backing plates+dust shields-140 lbs.
-less axles,but with carrier+gears-105 lbs.

youll have to put MWC in the mix too. Something that could skew the weights on the 9" are the center section materials i know my aluminum one is a bit less than the iron one. Im sure axle splines could make a dif, but ive never handled anythign other than stock and 35 spline axles

We could be weighing housings for days if we were to weigh all the different combination's we can put together.. I know we can get our housing lighter than a 10 bolt with all the available options we have. You will need to separate standard nine inch housing to something like our fabricated housing because there will be a difference there as well.

Sounds good, I here people say they're going with a 12 bolt because it's lighter than a 9" So my question is how much lighter and is that the place to be saving weight?

You won't notice any 1/4 mile time difference with a heavier rear-end. I've had guys put the standard non fabricated (not the lightweight Moser fabricated M9) Moser 9 inch in their cars with the same gear ratio they had in their 10 bolt, and they said there cars were now faster in the 1/4. It probably has to do with them not being afraid to be aggressive coming out of the hole like they had to be with the 10 bolt. Bob

With what Eric said i thik its more importat to get the POPULAR combiatio weights. Yes they ca pry make us a rear that weighs a **** ton less tha a 10 bolt, but how much of us ever get somethig more tha the 9" that is basically stock width with either a wavetrac, true trac or spool?

To put it simply, there is no bad weight savings. What it comes down to is going the extra mile to get all the weight savings important enough for your particular build.

When you are talking weights, the 12 bolt is around 30 pounds lighter than a standard 9" housing. An the standard nine inch is around 50 pounds heavier than the stock 10 bolt. Something like our fabricated housing we can get lighter than a stock ten bolt.

It has been very popular for customers to narrow their rear end housing this year. That is even more weight off the housing itself. You will need to purchase wheels to narrow a housing of course. But taking -3 off each side is just more weight off the housing and can be done with out any fitment modifications. As long as you buy the proper tire and wheel combination. We can do more than -3 even before we get into the LCA mount and have to narrow it.

It is hard to pin point a common package to go off of, With their being so many combination's I can't think of were to begin.
