Sounds like the gears you have now would be efficient for low 9's. What size tire?

26" tire........trying to get rid of some cam surge cruisin around town, the cam calls for a 4.30 gear and im tryin to get as high as a gear as i can and still run 9's, thats why i was thinkin about going with a 3.70 or 3.75 gear

havent been to the track yet in this car

I used one of those Tire Height/MPH calculators and it said @6800 in 4th gear with a 3.70 would be 140-141 MPH on 26" tires. I don't know how accurate those calculators are but that's what I came up with.

I would imagine that is pretty accurate in a stickshift car minus tire growth. Auto cars are way different with converter slip percentages.

Maybe make a 1/4 mile pass and see how much room you have to grow.

****, I finish in 4th at about two or three bounces off the limiter @ 6800. Stock rear @ 3.42, 26" tire. Haven't been to the track in a while tho.

Cam surge is gonna be worse w a smaller gear.

3.70 will be a great gear for you with the 26" tires. HSESWS6 here has almost the exact same combo as you, but with 28" tires and he uses a 3.89 gear. if the gear is correct for the mechanical aspect of things and you are still experiencing cam lope issues with driveabilty, then maybe try to change your engine tune a bit in that area which should help.
