Rear width and wheel back space
Stock width with a 10" wheel is 7.5 BS, if you narrow the rear end -3 each side it then changes the BS to 4.5. if you narrow it -2 each side then it makes it 5.5, -1 each side is then 6.5.
You also have to keep in mind tire size choice will dictate what you have to modify as well. As to fit a 28x10.5 on a 10" wheel you have to do some massaging in certain areas to make it fit. Ride height will also determine what you need to do for clearance.
I hope this helps a little and if you have any more questions just let me know.
I heard one of the advantages for a shortened rear end would be Slightly lighter weight, and slightly less drivetrain loss. Is this true, or is it so negligable that it doesn't really matter, and it just comes down to availibility of BSing in your rim choice, or that desire for the deep dish look? lol
