Who would be interested in an 8.8 torque arm rear?

I am throwing together some ideas with a sponsor for a very strong, fabricated torque arm mount for the 8.8 rear. No welding and very minimal fabrication on the end-user's part. Who would be interested? (Torque arm will not have ground clearance issues, like the Mustang torque arm aftermarket.
I can't go into much detail, but those interested in this swap, what options would you prefer? Please use the poll for feedback.

yes! very interested

Minimal work on my part, bolt in and go. Would need to be less than 12-bolt/9in.

BlackScreaminMachine 05-17-2011 12:40 PM

I think thats a great Idea, I guess it depends on how many people that want to persue the swap.

This set-up would cost considerably less than a Ford 9, We're looking at targeting the market for budget go-fast rear ends that don't cost $2500 out the door. Please select what type of linkage system you'd prefer, either spherical rod-end or poly bushed, the poll is multiple choice :) Both will be available should this kit become available.

Voted. It is a good market to go after. I don't drag race very often, but worry about running it hard and having the 10-bolt puke. The $2500 dor 12-bolt/9in setups is daunting.

yeah if you would ever sale just the torque arm mount youd make a killing for all the guys that made 8.8s and went with ladder setup, me being one of them.

SSmoked1 05-18-2011 02:18 PM

I voted. What's a ballpark figure on the pricing for the full swap and how much abuse can a 8.8 handle? Sorry, I'm not familiar with it.

ISMELLRICE 05-18-2011 02:23 PM

i was launching my 02 gt with fullish bolt ons at 3500 rpm on stock axles w/4.10s and drags...i dont think anyone can say that with a 10bolt

and op: just go with whatever is cheaper since everyone would be using it as a sort of budget build anyways...

The 8.8 has been in the 7's. Keep the feedback coming, we are looking at several options.

Torque arm and everything to bolt it to the rear, securely, should run about $500-$600 depending on options. Still have to get quotes on laser cutting etc, and will have to test the mount by beating on the rear end with an 800+ rwhp car on a slick.

You got any plans drawn up yet. I'm gonna be putting the same setup in my TA. I make my own phb, control arms, & all. I'm also gonna make a trq arm ta go with my setup. I'd thought about selling some aswell. I've seen a lot of interest in these setup's. The 8.8 is a very durable rear. I work at a fab shop and just can't buy something when I can make it. We do laser cutting, welding, machining and all. Let me know if I can help ya out.

Plug and play 8.8 swap is my vote. As much as I want MWC rear, the cost is just too much. The S60 is a good option but still steep. If a bolt up 8.8 set up could be obtained for around $1500-2000 I think you would make a killing.

Good luck on this venture and I will be very curious to see how this plays out.

67RSCamaroVette 05-19-2011 09:50 AM

I'll call you for a laser-cutting quote once everything's production level ready, but as of now it is not drawn in CAD yet. Once it's been abused and works, i'll cut apart the prototype and create the drawings.

mg98ta 05-19-2011 11:10 AM

You already have one together? I'm looking forward ta seein how it turns out. Good luck.

MUSTANGBRKR02 05-19-2011 04:42 PM

For this to be a worth while investment it has to be 3-400 cheaper than the moser or quick performance 9" in my opinion.

99 Blue Bird 05-19-2011 06:13 PM

a 8.8 that would bolt in and except stock gm brakes and suspension from a 98-02 fbody. that way EVERYTHING could be transfered over. sounds like a great market if they are cheaper than a 9" and 12 bolt.

I would like to see some kind of documentation/ proof of this. Where, who and when did an F body go 7's with an 8.8?
