Default Need new gears for 1/8 mile

Hey fella's I had something happen tonight that I knew would happen one day, I just wished it would of happened differently and later than sooner. I ended up smoking my tranny, but the other problem I was having was I was either going through the beams on the limiter or too close to it, or shifting too early into 3rd and running a shitty time(imo). I would normally keep it geared towards a 1/4 mile track, but this is my home track and it is 5 miles from my house. It really makes no sense to gear my car towards a 1/4 mile and never run one but 2-3 times a year, whereas I'll run here 25+ times a year.

My question is should I get 3.73's or 3.42's? Is there a medium between those two with a 12 bolt? I know a 3.73 would be ideal, but I still drive the car 2-4 times a week if not more in the summer. I get pretty decent mpg now (23+ hwy, 18 city) when I'm out of the boost. I wonder how much 3.73's would drop me down compared to 3.42's. I would like to have it done now while the tranny is being built and have it done with. What do you guys say?

There are calculations to make to help determine the best gear ratio based on lots of factors like tire size, transmission ratios, redline, etc.... I would call one of the gear producers like strange or motive. I don't have anything close to what you have done to my car but I can cruise fine with 4.56 gears and still get decent mpg if I baby it around.

Well the way I am headed right now, I'd like to go ahead and do the gears while I have the tranny out right now. It's getting built with all the clutch and sprag goodies and billet iternals, along with transbrake so I can launch this thing right. I was thinking 3.73's a new 3600 stall and a 3500 rpm launch will get my 3800# pig out the hole.

From what I have seen most Turbo cars wouldn't like a 4.56.

I personally would go with the 342s.

I know on NA 1/8 cars the difference would be minimal (or closer to-) non existent between a 342 and 373 gear swap.
