Sometimes gear lube will work its way up the pinion splines and come out from under the pinion nut and washer. When this lube gets slung it can appear to be from the pinion seal. If this is the case, disconnect the driveshaft from the pinion yoke and clean the pinion nut, washer and yoke. Apply a fillet of rtv around the nut and washer to the yoke and let it dry before driving the car.
Whenever the pinion yoke is removed and reinstalled before the washer and nut are installed it is good practice to fill the countersunk area of the yoke under where the washer goes with some sealant and then install the washer and pinion nut. This will prevent gear lube from coming out from the pinion splines.

Forgot to mention above that the sealant for UNDER the pinion washer and nut should probably be anaerobic sealant or a two part chemical cure type sealant.
