Default 2 or 3 series carrier?

alright I've been searching on here for a while and maybe this is a stupid question but I'm trying to figure out if i have a 2 or 3 series. I've got an 02 TA ws6 m6. So i guess i have stock 3.42 gears. my rear end needs a rebuild bad, terrible howl when coasting in gear. I'm gonna go with 3.73's but what i need to know is if i can tell what carrier i have without taking the cover off and looking. any help would be appreciated. thanks

3 Series. If your car came with 2.73's, then it would be a 2 series. But check the door jam. I now GU2 is 2.73 gears, I can't remember what the 3.42 gear code is.
