Default New Rear Is Loud!!

Finally got the new 12 bolt from STRANGE last friday.Put it in over the week end. Everything went in OK,comes filled with lube,(I CHECKED ) new u joint , had my bud paint at his body shop. I figured it probably wasnt gonna be as quiet as the 10 bolt,BUT, shes a howlin kind of loud. a little louder than i anticipated. How many of you STRANGE 12 bolt owners have the same results. From 30 mph on up she howls Im gonna call STRANGE up after EASTER and see what they say

Lol well I just got my car back wednesday with a new Moser, and she whines a decent amount too. Fairly quiet from 0-40, and then from 60+. But ~40-60 she definitely sings a tune. Somewhat the nature of the beast, but you could find a local guy who sets up rears, and have him re-instal your 12 bolt gears. My guess is the Strange and Moser mfg guys don't really go through great lenghts when setting up the gears and the pinion depth and backlash probably aren't as good as they could be.

Moser says their gears whine because the teeth are cut for strength, not silence. My Moser 9 inch whines a little, but not too bad IMO.

uh-oh! I knew those would whine. Some people mentioned the strange whines even more than the moser - not sure though. I guess it sucks for me to know that my car is going to have to make more noise in the future which gets me kinda mad.. these stock 10 bolts suck! i sure hope my rear end does not "sing a tune" one day im having more than enough squeaks and rattles already. The LEAST thing I want my car to do now is start singing!

hope the ford 8.8 bolts dont whine.. if that happens then all hope is gone. Guess ill just have to get used to "the nature of the beast" howl one day

Moser and strange both use the same gear manufacturer, think that might be part of the problem.

My strange started howling after 30 miles. I called them up and they had me bring it to a shop. Sure enough it was hosed... the teeth on the ring gear where 1/2 gone(worn out) after about 150 miles. Turns out they sent me gm motive gears(I was on hold for gears for over a month because they ran out). They then sent universal(I think) gears, and paid for all expenses. I can only hear it now from 50-65 mph under acceleration and its a very slight whine.

Give them a call.

I have heard that a lot of those 12 bolts arent always setup great from the factory. I have seen a few posts on the local board here about a few guys having 12 bolts that whined, then taking it to our board's local gear expert and reset the gears with little to no whine afterwards.
