gear guru's

I am replacing my us gear 12 bolt 4.30 gears for the 5th time in 7000 miles
with a set of motive gear 4.11.The question I have is the 4.11 set has a 9
tooth pinion where as the 4.30 gears had a 10 tooth. This concerns me as
I ordered 4.10 ratio from the vendor specifically to get a 10 tooth pinion. The
web sites I looked at show motive gear making this ratio. After so many gear
failures in so few miles I shure don't want to put in a weaker gear set.Does
any one know if a 10-41 set is stronger than a 9-37 set?Or does the thicker
ring gear of the 9-37 set add to the strength? Thanks in advance for your expert replies.

I had the same question a while back that made it to the shop floor of the manufacture's plant who made the gears. Same vendor, same make of gears, SAME part number on the box, only one year later. My first set was a 10/41 set. A year later after blowing those up my second set was a 9/37. As I said, the vendor couldn't answer me as to why, Tech support at the manufacture couldn't answer. I had to wait for an answer from the grind master on the shop floor. Tech support finally told me they changed to this combo since it had proven to be more reliable. They bailed on the old combo even though it was still in the catolog. I don't know maybe just a line to get rid of me, but they havn't failed yet.

I checked with the vendor again today and his catalog also says 10-41.Nice tech support, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when the mfg and dist don't know product specifics.
