I think the 3rd and 4th gen rear ends are basically the same if not the exact same. Last time I jacked up my dad's '87 that's when I noticed how similar the rear end looked compared to mine. I know that the 3rd gen rear end is a 7.5'' 10 bolt and the 4th gen is a 7.5 10 bolt so I don't see why they wouldn't bolt right up.

The rear is a direct bolt in for either year combination however the wheel need to match the vehicle the rear came from due to backspacing difference. With that said, pre-90 v8 cars had 26-spline axles the Australian 9-bolt was quite strong 86-89 but locating parts is tough and expensive gear ratios are limited aswell.

4th gen rears are longer from flange to flange. they will fit, but it will push your rear wheels out farther.

Fourth gen rears are almost 2" wide....

Of course thirdgens don't have ABS or TCS, so if the fourth gen rear does, you just don't hook up those provisions.

The short answer is yes, but your thirdgen wheels will stick out some or run 4th gen wheels for a perfect fit.
