Default how much gear is needed for 228R cam

Hi,
I just took my car out for the first time and had to rev to about 3k and slip the clutch to get it moving or else it would stall out. My question is what overall gear ratio is need (or you guys use) if you have the same setup?

With my 2.6 first gear,3.23 rear gear and a 28.5'' tire in back I have an effective gear that is 9.9mph/1000rpm. I'm thinking to go to 3.90's which would give me 8.1mph/1000rpm. I only want enough gear so that I don't have to slip the clutch past, say 1500rpm, from a normal takeoff. I want o make it clear this is not a debate wether 3.90 or 4.10's are better/worse.

I didn't think the cam was so big, if you guys have the same mph/rpm numbers, perhaps theres not enough timing?

My car is a 1969 Cutlass with an 6.0L LQ9. Weight is about 3800lbs. LS6 intake, longtubes and a 228R TSP cam. It has a T56 out of a 98 camaro (2.6 first gear).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hey Tom, you have a 219, would you mind telling me the trans, tire specs and vehicle weight-ish? I'd like to make direct comparisons, and if you think you should have gone with more gear, that will tell me how much I should aim for.

I have a feeling that that the required mph/1000rpm is directly related to dynamic volume(volume trapped after intake closes, or perhaps cranking compression. Anyone else tried figuring this out before?

I would definitely have 4.56's on that car!
