Default Decisions, 3.23 vs 4.11

Ive been looking for a rearend for my 99 z28 recently i found one all orginal for 300 bucks but will cost me 100 bucks in gas. i recently found one alot closer that i can probably get for 350 but this one says it has new richmond 4.11:1 gears. is this alot better then the 3.23. what are the gains and losses between the 2? please/thanks for the help!

Potentially,very noisy.
At freeway legal speeds,3.23-24.5mpg,4.11-22.2mpg.
4.11s' will increase torque to the axles by 27% over the 3.23s'.

The Richmonds..especially used, might whine like crazy.
Whether 3.23 or 4.11s are better than one another is personal preference.
Is it a dd? Do you race/track? How many miles do these rears have?
You'll need some sticky tires with 4.11s..

Is there an issue with your current rear which it sounds like is a 323 with 110k on it?

Miles is never a good factor to make a decision that a part is worn or not worn because what the rear has been put through in those miles can vary greatly.

Of my 3 ls1 cars 2 are on original rears , my a4 bolt on car has 173,000 on quiet stock rear , my 6 speed bolt on car has 234,000 miles on stock 342 rear , still quiet but has only seen 3 track passes barely cracking 11's so it has never been clutch dumped on sticky tires which is what really kills stock 10 bolts -most of the blown stock rears you see on here were on 6 speed cars.

My 3rd car is a bolt on stalled auto car that had 373 richmonds when I got it , it is noisy setup issue or gears I don't know when it blows it will get whatever stock rear I can get for a deal the stall immediately brings the rpms up to where the engine makes power regardless of gears ,323 or 342 would be my preference though for tightness street driving- a 3500-4000 stall makes these cars what they should have been to begin with.

If there is nothing wrong with your current rear conventional wisdom on here is leave it alone on an auto car which I assume yours is since all 6 speeds got 342's and instead go with a stall , gears might drop a tenth or 2 while a stall will generally give you better that half a second and make the car feel like a whole different animal. I've seen posts on here where .7 or .8 was gained on a stall and sticky tires which you are planning on adding.

A rear end that has been opened up before is way more likely to have an issue based on improper setup and these 7.5" 10 bolts have a very small gear set in them with only 7.5" to work within the higher numerically the gear set is the thinner and weaker it is the 411's even setup perfectly will be weaker than your stock gear set. If you had a 12 bolt,9",or S60 then I would say go for it with the 411's but where this is a daily on a 7.5 I wouldn't do it....
