Default Gear pattern, could use a little assistance

Be gentle as this is my first ever attempt at a rear end, but I wanted to try to teach myself and learn. I ended up with this pattern and I am a tad confused as to which direction I needed to go. If you guys could steer me in the right direction, that would be great. All pics are as it sits. We would just repaint and roll it around again. This is on a Ford 8.8 with around .008 backlash and .002 runout.

From what I can see it doesn't look bad at all.

I am getting some responses on another post saying I need to add a little more to try to bring it down slightly I think. Comment by a couple people was that it is too deep.

Have you tried putting tension on the ring gear while rotating the pinion gear? I would repaint the gears and try this. This will give you a better/ cleaner pattern.Overall the pattern looks good. Post results if you can and I will take another look.

Just with my hand. No axles or wheels in yet.

Always rotate the ring gear against the pinion. Be sure the pinion has the proper preload though. Professional installers like Tom's, Randy's and others recommend this as standard procedure.

Otherwise, I agree with others who have indicated the pinion is a bit too deep. Add about .003 to the pinion carrier shim stack and recheck.

To check the drive side pattern I've always loaded the ring gear and rotated the pinion.

To the OP - what pinion shim is in there now?

I forget the total number. It is a couple shims together. I am going to try to get back on it tomorrow and finish it up hopefully. I will let you know.
